Post-operative instructions for Scaling

Instructions for Scaling

To minimize the discomfort and encourage proper healing following your scaling, follow these instructions:

1.  Do oral rinses 3-4 times daily for a week with warm salted water.

2.  Use a soft toothbrush at least two times a day. Be gentle and clean thoroughly.

3.  Slight bleeding may occur while brushing as the tissues begin to heal.

4.  Avoid strong spicy seasonings, and hard crunchy foods for the next few days.

5.  Smoking should be stopped. Success of the treatment will be substantially reduced by the cigarette smoke chemicals in your body.

6.  As the tissues heal, some temporary sensitivity to cold may occur. Use a desensitizing toothpaste if advised (such as Sensodyne0) for 1 to 2 weeks. Also, the cleaner the teeth are kept, the less sensitive they will be.

7.  Faithfully use any other oral hygiene aids (such as mouthwash) that have been recommended.

8.  After the procedure take the painkiller as advised before the anesthetic wears off.

9.  Regularly brush your teeth twice daily.

10.  Regularly do flossing before brushing twice daily.

11.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call.
